READING Genesis 37-50
Colossians 1
And you, who used to be alienated, and enemies in understanding by the wicked works, but whom he’s now reconciled, in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and without reproach in his sight

You can’t mess up God’s plan for your life…
Like Joseph… He even had a special insight into his future. God gave him two dreams which showed him how important he would be sometime in the future. And as you probably know, he told his family and they thought he was arrogant and downright crazy. But they didn’t take any chance that he would lord it over them, so they sold him to a passing slave caravan. If they really hadn’t believed his dreams, do you think they would have done that?
Anyway, just to recap, he ends up sold as a slave in Egypt. It sounds like his slave life wasn’t “too” bad. But he was still a slave in Egypt thousands of years ago. Not a great life I wouldn’t think. If I’d been offered, I’m sure I wouldn’t have swapped places with him when I was growing up.
And then he even ended up in prison because his boss’s wife tried to seduce him, but when he refused she lied that he had tried to seduce her. When actually he had been incredibly loyal to his boss, and treated his wife with real honour.
But I wonder how many times in prison he beat himself up for not keeping quiet with his family about those dreams in the first place back home. I wonder how many times he thought he should have seen it coming with Potipher’s wife and handled that all very differently. Those dreams he had back in Israel weren’t going to come true now that he had messed things up so badly here in Egypt. Maybe he was wrong about the dreams in the first place? Maybe his brothers were right and he was just proud. Maybe this was Yahweh’s plan, and he would spend the rest of his life in an Egyptian prison.
But Yahweh had given him those dreams. And Yahweh was always in control. Every moment of every day. Even this prison trip was an essential part of the plan. Yahweh always knew how Joseph’s life was going to end up, and what steps would be along the way. His plan for Joseph was 100% safe, 100% guaranteed, despite, and in fact because of, Joseph’s choices and behaviour.
He has a plan for your life too. And his plan for your life is also 100% safe. You haven’t messed it up, no matter what you did. You might have done something you think is irrecoverable. But rest assured. Yahweh’s plan for your life is still fully intact and secure. He knew you were going to do that, and his plan for you included it. And his plan is still on course for the outcome he always intended.
As it says in Colossians… “And you, who used to be alienated, and enemies in understanding by the wicked works, but whom he’s now reconciled, in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and without reproach in his sight.”
Of course, learn what you can from your failings, but don’t get so hung up on them that you don’t move forward. Learn, and move on. God is always going to be improving your character. Work with him. Submit.
Follow that dream to a better you.
