We (the church), can whinge and moan about how society is crumbling.
About youth crime.
About how it’s not safe to go out at night any more.
About how society has changed so much the last 50 years.
About how they need Yeshua. And if only they would come and join us their lives would be changed.
But what are we doing about it?
A friend of mine had a very practical idea.
He got a couple of young guys in his community interested in fixing up old bicycles.
The idea was, if you fix it up, you can have it.
So they got old broken bikes from the tip, dumped on the street, anywhere they could get them.
And then taught the kids how to fix them up and get them working again.
They loved it.
And more importantly, having someone care about them, show interest in them, teach them something, … changed them.
They’re totally not interested in youth crime.
You can see their web site here Tasmania Bike Collective.
Remember that 90’s saying, “What would Jesus Do”.
Would he just go to church and complain about them?
Or would he go where they are, and do something to bring change?
I’m sure you know those verses about training up your own children.
What about someone else’s children who maybe don’t have great parents like you?
Maybe for your church it’s not about bikes. But there must be something relevant to your area, and to your youth which you could do to help them find acceptance, and a purpose. And ultimately, to find Yeshua.
Whatever it is, do something.
