Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the hearts.

The world is becoming less and less tolerant, and more and more divided. And people are becoming more and more opinionated.
Even within individual countries, states and provinces are no longer cooperating openly with each other. Like when they insisted that their way of dealing with COVID was the ONLY way to deal with COVID and all other states must do it like we do.
Scotland no longer wants to be part of Britain because as a nation they voted to withdraw from the European Union, but Scotland disagrees with that. So they can no longer tolerate being part of a country with England, Ireland and Wales. So, is Scotland OK with people who don’t want to be part of Scotland because they do agree with Britain’s stand on Europe? And they’ve decided they’ll no longer pay taxes to the Scottish government?
Where has our sense of unity gone? Why are we becoming so divided? And so intolerant. We’re heading for anarchy. And that is not a good thing.
Even in “democratic” countries, if we decided something democratically but our group didn’t get its way. Now we want to rebel. We demand our right to protest. And that protest somehow even seems to have the right to damage other peoples’ property, or to disrupt their law abiding business to the point that they lost significant income.
We’re blaming cows for all the global warming, so everyone has to become vegetarian. Our way is SO right, everyone has to submit to my way. Even though I have the right to never submit to anyone else unless I want to.
Years ago Democrats in the USA were protesting Trump’s first term, “Not My President”. Then when they won the next election, they’re the ones insisting it was a fair election and the Republicans must just accept that without question. (Even though they didn’t when their candidate lost).
Individual people too seem to becoming more and more sensitive. Over sensitive really. Someone redesigns MahJong with modern, bright, quirky tiles and that’s “Not culturally sensitive”. So what? If you don’t like it don’t buy it.
A few years ago Twitter banned Donald Trump. In the land of free speech, and the country holding itself up to the world as the ultimate model of freedom and democracy. They ban their own democratically elected President because they don’t like what he says.
This sounds just like those Bible verses about people who only want to do what is right in their own eyes - doesn’t it. Nobody seems willing to submit to rulers any more. Or rules for that matter.
“You can’t tell me what to do”, is basically the same as, “I will do what is right in my own eyes”.
Like in the days of the Judges. “In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did that which was right in his own eyes.”
Which is probably OK if you’re wise, and your opinion is well considered. But these days everyone thinks they’re an expert. Usually because they saw something on TikTok or You Tube.
Proverbs has an interesting verse: “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who is wise listens to counsel.”
By all means have an opinion. But listen to what the other guys are saying too. Really give it some thought … could they be right? Could you be wrong?
“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the hearts.” “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”
What happens, when you’re SO right in your own eyes, that you even stop asking God? When you stop caring what he says about important issues, and you just decide it’s OK because YOU think so.
Is that when we have churches who teach that homosexuality is all OK because everyone has the right to love who they love? Unless of course they’re a paedophile. Thankfully nobody thinks that’s OK. Except them. But that just makes our argument hypocritical, so we don’t want to talk about it.
Is that when we have churches who support gender reassignment because people are trapped in the wrong body? Even though Psalm 139 implies that God himself forms our bodies. It says that he knits us together in our mother’s womb. And Jeremiah says that Yahweh knew us even before he formed us in the womb. Or do we think that sometimes God drops the ball and gets it wrong?
How about you personally? What issue are you conveniently not asking God for his opinion on because you’ve already decided what you want to believe oops, I mean what is right.
