Worship

READING
Isaiah 29
Romans 12

“Because this people draw near with their mouth and honour me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men

What is worship? (And what isn’t?)

Singing a song in a church with a bunch of Christians?
Standing on a mountain, arms up to Heaven telling Yahweh how incredible he is?
Living your life as much as you are able, to bring as much glory to God as you can?

All of those?

Churches these days often talk of “singing a worship song”. But what does that mean?

Is this a worship song?

Is this?

What’s the difference? The words are identical.
Does the style of music make one a worship song and one not?
Do we have to even have music to worship? Can’t we just cry out to heaven like the man on the mountain?

Surely it’s the words we’re declaring that make it worship or not.
And it’s the attitude in our heart which makes those words worship or not.
Anyone can say them. The issue is, do we mean them?
In fact, it’s the attitude in the heart which makes any action we do worship or not.
Ask ourselves, “Why are we doing that?”

So anything we do can be worship - if that’s what’s in our hearts, and it’s the reason we’re doing it.
Even including the way we live our lives, day by day.

From what I’ve read, Mother Theresa lived her life as if her every action was worship to Yeshua.
Everything she did was for him, and done because she felt that action would please and honour him.

Is there any reason we can’t do that too? Any reason we can’t live like that?

Hopefully we’re not living like the people of Isaiah 29.
Who only worship with our mouths, but our hearts are far from him.
Where’s your heart today?

Where will it be tomorrow?
