READING 1 Samuel 16
Proverbs 23
2 Corinthians 4
We don’t take note of the things which are seen, but the things which aren’t seen, for the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which aren’t seen are everlasting

We all have different lenses we use to look at the world.
As we grow we change our thinking, we adjust what things we see as important, our view of life, our understanding of the Bible, even just our personal preferences. And each of these becomes another lens we use when looking at the world around us.
Those lenses affect what we see, (and what we’re blind to), and what, and how, we react to the things going on around us.
And your lenses are different from mine. We might share a few that are similar, but they’re pretty much unique for every person on the planet because some of them are shared cultural things, but mostly they’re shaped by our life experiences as we go along.

Yahweh doesn’t filter life through a lens. He sees the truth. In 1 Samuel, we read “Man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.” This is one of our biggest, most complicated lenses. We pretty much only look at the outside. How things appear. If we like how it looks, we like it. If we don’t like how it looks, we don’t like it.
Yahweh sees through all that, and sees the heart within. If he likes that, he likes it. If he doesn’t like the heart he sees, he doesn’t like it.
But if it’s a person, he loves them anyway! Regardless of what he sees in their heart. If only we could do more of that! We usually really struggle to love them if we don’t like them. We even struggle to be merciful to them, gracious to them. (And then we justify that because we even use our lenses when we look at ourselves!)
Where would we be if Yahweh had been like us? Where would we be if Yahweh had not loved people he didn’t like after seeing their heart? Where would you be? I know I’d be lost.
Now here’s a fascinating quote from Proverbs, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” What you think about events around you, is caused by how you see events around you. It’s caused by your lenses. And “so is he”. How you see things has made you who you are. Your lenses have made you who you are.
Want to change who you are? Change what lenses you’re using, and try to see things the way Yahweh does. You must change your lenses if you want to change.
What lens are you and I using which is blocking us from changing. How do we change that? How do we get rid of it and just stop using it? We have to find a way.
Pray that God will show you what lenses you use. And that he will help you see things the way he does. It will literally be life changing.
